Job titles in married life

My wife is grumpy with me at the moment and I don’t blame her. I’m not doing a very good job being a husband and then it hits me… a ‘husband’ is kind of like a job title: certain things are expected of you and you have Key Performance Indicators that show you how well you’re doing.

So I’m failing on certain KPIs. When I met my wife I was an Acland… we dated (interviewed) and I got married (got the job!), and I became a husband. As an Acland I’m doing pretty well… I’m lazy, slightly incompetent and flit from idea to idea regularly… the sort of things you’d hate in a husband. As a husband I’m not doing so well… I forget the trash, aniversaries and could focus on the job at hand more.

I just hope my wife doesn’t fire me… I think I’m going to get a verbal warning.

    Buddy you’ll be okay if just once you take the bin out and leave a bunch of flowers on the table. Change the doona and fresh sheets at the end of the week and occassionally toss the dirty linen into the machine.
