Bobby Flynn

My wife loves her Australian Idol and it usually leaves me a bit dry because all the acts try to sound like the singers they try to emulate. Then out of the background I hear Bobby Flynn – this guy is great because he’s different.

Here’s the song that he wrote that I first heard and got him into the show:

Now I love a good cover song, especially one that has been reworked in some way that stands apart from the original. So when Bobby sang ‘When the war is over’ by Cold Chisel I was hoping there was going to be some magic there… and there was:

So simple… just a guitar that is basically doing variations on this:
+———————-+———————+
+———————-+———————+
+——-1—2—-1–+——-1—2—-1-+
+—-2—-2—-2—+—-2—-2—-2—+
+———————-+———————+
+–0——————+-0——————+
When the war is over got to start

+———————-+———————+
+———————-+———————+
+——-1—2—-1–+——-1—2—-1-+
+—-2—-2—-2—+—-2—-2—-2—+
+-0——————-+-0——————+
+———————–+———————+
again…..

Nothing complex… just different.

What I don’t understand is why these artists don’t get their music on mp3 before the show or at least have a website… because I’d by Bobby Flynn’s album right now, there’s $30 burning a hole in my pocket for this album whether he wins or loses.

Oh yes, thank God for youtube or you’d miss this stuff unless you were forced to watch Australian Idol by your wife.
